☆ Palo Alto CM Tanaka leads, speaks out against antisemitic targeting of DA Rosen

Palo Alto Councilmember and Congressional candidate Greg Tanaka reflects on the recent incident of antisemitic targeting of Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen. The act, symbolizing a disturbing rise in local and national hate-driven politics, finds a unique adversary in Tanaka, whose personal family history lends special poignancy to his critique. An Opp Now exclusive.

In times of crisis, the true measure of leadership is not just in words, but in the ability to connect the past with the present.

The flyer depicting DA Rosen, marked with hateful and antisemitic symbols, including an upside-down red triangle associated with Hamas, has provoked widespread condemnation. Yet, the core issue transcends just hateful antisemitism. Rosen, a figure with no influence over foreign policy, has become a scapegoat in a complex geopolitical conflict, highlighting a dangerous trend of misdirected anger and blame in political discourse.

My father, a third-generation Japanese American, bore the brunt of misplaced hatred in post-WW2 America, a parallel that cannot be ignored today.

The rise in antisemitic incidents globally and locally underscores the urgent need for awareness and action. This is not just about one incident but a larger fight against a resurging wave of bigotry and ethnic discrimination.

While the focus is on the antisemitic nature of the incident, it is crucial to acknowledge the complexities surrounding the Israel–Palestine conflict and the diverse viewpoints it engenders. This acknowledgment does not dilute the issue at hand but rather frames it within a broader, more nuanced context.

As we stand against such acts of hatred, we must remember the lessons of the past and commit to a future where diversity and respect are our guiding principles.
