☆ Why the City must “prune away” superfluous services and regulations
Honor “Mimi” Robson, the immediate past Libertarian Party of CA chair, explains to Opp Now that if SJ scales back services and regulations to the bare essentials, taxpayers (local gov’t “customers”) are freer to lead productive and happy lives. Last month, Mayor Mahan went on record opposing 2024’s statewide Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act (TPA).
What a shame. San Jose could’ve set an example for California’s other languishing cities, of listening to its customer: the resident taxpayers.
San Jose: To model a city that thrives, you must budget as though your customer will embrace the TPA—ignoring reality is what saddled you with your 20 years of pension debt. So, prune away extraneous “city services” delivered better by the voluntary free market, and unleash your customer from regulations hampering their pursuit of happiness.
As taxpayers flourish, so will the city.
