Fact checkpalooza: mistakes abound in Merc D3 endorsement
SJ Mercury editorial writers have contorted themselves into some odd rhetorical positions to justify going all-in on lefty labor candidates in the SJ Council races, all the while dissing candidates supported by moderate groups like Common Good. But is it too much to ask that at least they get some basic facts right--like acknowledging that D6 CM and third place mayoral candidate Dev Davis is still on the council? Merc Claim: "Ireme Smith {Torres' opponent} hasn’t garnered support from any of the current members of the San Jose City Council or Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
Fact check: Totally false. Smith has received the endorsements of both sitting D6 Councilwoman Dev Davis and County Supervisor candidate Johnny Khamis.
Merc Claim: "Smith's positions on issues are out of sync with San Jose’s pro-business officeholders."
Fact check: False. Smith received the sole endorsement of the Silicon Valley Business PAC, the area's leading pro-business political organization, as well as the endorsements referenced above.
